The Black Nurses Who Saved America from TB Before tuberculosis had a cure, it killed thousands every year — and the only nurses willing to fight it were Black women, later known as the Black Angels. Over 300 nurses served at Sea View Hospital in Staten Island, risking their lives to care for patients no one else would touch.
