December 31, 1969 marked the debut live performance of the BAND OF GYPSYS featuring Jimi Hendrix, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles. On May 8, 1970 The Jimi Hendrix Experience performed 2 shows at the University of Oklahoma. The event marked Hendrix's first performance following the tragic Kent State massacre. To pay homage to the fallen, he dove in a stirring rendition of "Machine Gun" during the second set.
