Turns out Dr. Brenner’s dad was part of the experiment, hence his obsession with Dimension X, Henry's powers, and the Upside Down. Meanwhile, the technology in the briefcase transported Henry to Dimension X and he, per Deadline, "returned with a unique blood type, a different personality and new powers."
Stranger Things has been hinting at this reveal throughout Season 5. Look no further than its references to A Wrinkle in Time, which features wormhole-like tesseracts. Or how about Mr. Clarke fully teaching a class on Einstein-Rosen Bridges, aka wormholes?

Vol. 2 of Season 5 will be available on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 25. Fans can expect to see three new episodes with the series' final episode set to air on Dec. 31. Episodes 5 to 7 will arrive Dec. 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
It certainly seems like it, now that Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) has finally escaped Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in the fifth and final season of "Stranger." By Episode 6 of the season, we have seen a lot of thumb-twiddling, with our characters running around in plot circles; maybe this episode's big ending is a sign that bigger things are coming?
Having high expectations from the finale episode, one reviewed Volume 2 by saying, "Just finished Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 and it was terrible. A complete letdown. I don’t know what Duffer Brothers were smoking while writing it. Waiting all these years for this was beyond disappointing. Only the finale can save the sinking ship now (sic)."
Though the second part of the show's fifth season is being released Christmas night, the series finale won't be available to fans until New Year's Eve.
